Ave Maria – Bach/Gounod | Organ & Cello | James Flores and Ethan Porter

I’m very grateful that Ethan agreed to record this duet with me! The Bach “Ave Maria” is a popular and much-recorded setting of the Latin prayer, Ave Maria. The piece consists of a melody by the French Romantic composer, Charles Gounod. The accompaniment is slightly modified version of the Prelude No. 1 in C major, BWV 846, from Book I of J.S. Bach’s The Well-Tempered Clavier, written 137 years earlier. If I was playing this as an organ solo, I would take the cello part in the pedals—but today I had Ethan perform it beautifully on his cello. Later on in the year he will be presenting a recital where I’ll be accompanying him on the piano. I hope to have this on the channel when the time comes.
