AVE MARIA – Melchiore Mauro-Cottone

Melchiore Mauro-Cottone, who was born in Palermo, Italy, in 1883, passed away in New York City on September 29, 1938. Both his grandfather and father Antonio Mauro, who were organists and composers, were his teachers. There are countless settings of the AVE MARIA but there doesn’t seem to be any (that I can find) of the Cottone, so we hope this is just one of many to come! Back in 2014, I was part of a schola that recorded a CD in honour of Our Lady. This was one of the tracks and I’ve linked to the Spotify song below. Many thanks to Sally Morris and Rebekah Beall, from Lux Alba (https://luxalba.org), for joining in this SATB+organ collab with Tony Lee, Mathieu Couture and Andrew Flores.
