“Love Unknown” by John Ireland is often associated with the season of Lent as the hymn’s text, by Samuel Crossman, focuses on the theme of God’s love and sacrifice, making it a fitting choice for Lent, a season of reflection and penitence leading up to Easter. Paul Fey’s Prelude on “Love Unknown” actually begins with “Aus tiefer Not schrei ich zu dir” before we hear the Love Unknown hymn tune. @grahamtwist also wrote a beautiful chorale prelude on the hymn here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZNtic8QZPM
